Operations Engineer

Location: This role is based in Bangkok and reports to the Sydney Operations Manager

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initial analysis and investigation of calls assigned by the team leader, ensuring that calls are dealt
    with in the required SLAs and that customer satisfaction is maintained.
  • Escalating calls that cannot be progressed with the team leader and to the sustaining support
    team.
  • To ensure that customers are kept informed of the status/progress of calls.
  • Restoration of service after a service affecting problem.
  • Applying and releasing configuration changes to customer systems.
  • Releasing new revisions of software to customers
  • To provide on-the-job training based on their areas of expertise to other members of the team as
    required.
  • To assist in the improvement and maintenance of both technical and non technical procedures,
    and to ensure that technical information is made available to other team members.
  • Installing, configuring and testing one or more systems
  • Problem troubleshooting, system enhancement, performance tuning
  • Carry out operational acceptance testing in house/on site
  • Writing technical procedure documents
  • Installation & integration of hardware, software and cabling
  • Configuring the system according to customer environment and their requirements
  • Understanding customer's operational and technical requirements and translating them to a
    system solution
  • In the event a defect in a product is found, the engineer is responsible for documenting the defect
    and communicating the problem priority to the necessary levels of management, and, together
    with the sustaining team, providing the customer with a solution.
  • The engineer may be required to travel to a customer locations (nationally/internationally) for
    system installations and any other project related activities.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Essential: 

  • 3 years knowledge of telecommunications, products and protocols (Java, SMPP,TCP/IP, HTTP, MM7)
  • 3 years knowledge of the basics of GSM networks
  • 3 years knowledge of SMS and MMS products.

Desirable:

  • Degree in the Telecommunications sector or computer science

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Working knowledge of UNIX and Linux including installation and configuration of products.
  • Troubleshooting applications.
  • Experience working with diverse communication protocols.
  • Flexible attitude to working in a cross-functional and multicultural organization.
  • Able to manage stress effectively.
  • Must possess excellent time management, organizational and communication skills.
  • Bilingual - Thai and English
  • Motivated self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Customer oriented.
  • Sharp quantitative and analytical skills.
